Report

The dominance of Team Canada was easy to recognized already after open face-off. Immediately they created several opportunities and in 9th minute Phil Boudreault begun the scoring list with solo attack. One minute after was added shorthanded goal by David Hammond and Maple Leaves could calm down. Closely before the intermission Corbeil netted another goal so in the second half the disappointed Canadians did not have to hurry.

"We are representing Canada, so we always have to give our best. Obviously everyone wants to play for a medal, but we have to forget about our last game and try to win the next one," expressed Thomas Woods his feelings during the game.

They played without difficulties, in 24th minute John Clewlon increased the difference. But the Germans came back to the life for a while. Brinkmann sent the puck to Schlicht and he scores first goal. After one minute later Heinrich even terrified the opponent with his goal but immediately Hammond returned to the Canadians good leading 5:2.

In the final ten minutes the favorite scored three times and so against helpless Team Germany confirmed its power. The Germans will play for seventh spot, the Canadians for fifth.

"Team Canada is the one of best team ever. We wanted to play from the defence because everyone knows that the Canadians are great in the one-on-one situations. We missed a little luck and experience. Next year we will be better. We do not have to be disappointed from the result," said the German defensman Fabio Carciola.

Comments

Richard Ropchan (Team Canada coach): The game really didn´t mean a lot to us, other than that we want to finish in 5th place. That is the best we can do, so we want to make sure we won´t do worse than that. The guys are still pretty disappointed about last night. No disrespect to our opponent, there wasn´t a lot of pressure, it was a very easy game, we did not have to try really hard. It is a big letdown for us, we wanted to play for medals.

Jesse Panek (Team Germany coach): We knew that Team Canada is the one of the best teams in the tournament and it would be really tough for us. We played well in the beginning and in the end but between those parts we were without energy. Team Canada won deservedly.
